Armstrong’s quest for IAAF Diamonds continues in Monaco Friday

OTTAWA – Dylan Armstrong of Kamloops, B.C., and Matthew Hughes of Oshawa, Ont., are both in Monaco as the Samsung Diamond League resumes Friday.

Armstrong, the current World Leader in the men’s shot put, leads the Diamond Race with 12 points. His Canadian record throw at the Canadian Championships of 22.21-metres is the top mark of 2011. Armstrong has registered victories at three Diamond League events already this year: Doha (21.38m), Rome (21.60m), Birmingham (21.55m).

Another Canadian competing in Monaco is Matthew Hughes who will be making his debut on the diamond league circuit. Hughes is looking to run sub 8:23.10 in the 3000-metres steeplechase which would punch his ticket to the World Championships later this summer in Korea.
