Spectacular Adventure in Croatia 2019

September 16, 2019 By sportadmin Leave a Comment

Adventure Race Croatia – Swedish team USWE ADVENTURE is the winner of the most prestigious and demanding Croatian adventure race, which is also a World Cup qualifier. In the 73 hours it took them to win the race, they slept a total of an hour and a half!

Second Edition of Spectacular Adventure in Croatia

Pakoštane / Pag, September 15 – The second edition of the biggest Croatian adventure race, Adventure Race Croatia, delighted, but also completely exhausted athletes from 17 countries, gathered in 41 four-member teams. After 73 hours and 9 minutes of non-stop racing, getting only an hour and a half sleep, the Swedish team USWE ADVENTURE was the one to first cross the finish line on the sandy shore of Pine Beach in Pakoštane. They left behind more than 500 kilometers of demanding, but astonishingly beautiful trails that mostly traversed the Velebit Karst, river canyons and vast planes of Zadar County.

“The trail was beautiful. Very diverse, but also extremely difficult,” said Magnus Woxholtt-Jensen, happy and tired member of the winning team. With this victory, the Swedish team secured their place at the next year’s World Cup in adventure racing.

French teams HOKA ONE ONE and RAIDSAVENTURE.FR crossed the finish line together, but a 15-minute penalty for not wearing the race bibs cost RAIDSAVENTURE.FR their second place. Thus, team, HOKA ONE ONE won the second place, with a time of 74 hours and 48 minutes, while team RAIDSAVENTURE.FR had to settle for bronze.

The only Croatian team, SPACE GOATS, successfully finished the race in 30th place in just under 100 hours of racing.

The second edition of Adventure Race Croatia, one of the nine races in Adventure Racing World Series (ARWS), started on September 10th from the city of Pag, in the biggest group kayak start in the history of Croatian adventure racing. In total, the race consisted of 17 challenging sections: 300 kilometers of cycling, about 160 km of running or walking, and 66 kilometers of paddling in a kayak. One should not forget the descent down the ropes and the difficult orientation when finding checkpoints.

The importance and the promotion potential of Adventure Race Croatia have been recognized by the Zadar County Tourist Board with six local tourist boards: Zadar, Nin, Pag, Starigrad-Paklenica, Dugi Otok and Pakoštane, having signed a multi-year contract to host the race. ARC was also supported by the Croatian National Tourist Board through the project Sport Croatia, with significant financial support for the production and media promotion of the race.

Judging by the fantastic positive reactions of racers, race partners and the judges of the Adventure Racing World Series, the second edition of Adventure Race Croatia will not be the last. Big plans are already underway for the third edition of the race, due in May 2020.
